Every year on the final Friday in August, we come together to show support for Australia’s LGBTQIA+ youth by wearing purple. Founded in 2010, Wear It Purple Day was created to foster safe, inclusive, and empowering environments for young people who face challenges in their acceptance and support due to their sexuality or gender identity. On Friday 29 August, wear your favourite purple piece, whether it’s a tie, blouse or even some purple nail polish, to proudly show your allyship with Australia’s rainbow youth.
Bold Voices, Bright Futures
The 2025 Wear It Purple Day theme, ‘Bold Voices, Bright Futures’, is a call to empower LGBTQIA+ youth to speak up and express themselves with confidence. It encourages young people to embrace who they are and know that their identities are valid, important and worth celebrating. By supporting this message, we’re helping create a future where queer youth feel safe, seen and supported in every space they step into. When young people are empowered to use their voices, they are more likely to feel connected, build resilience and achieve their full potential.
Bold Voices, Bright Futures reminds us that allyship means more than just acceptance; it’s about uplifting LGBTQIA+ youth, advocating for inclusion and actively contributing to a culture where they can thrive.
Show Your Support
Seeing their peers proudly rocking purple on Wear It Purple Day can help to make those in the LGBTQIA+ community feel supported, seen, and accepted. This simple act can raise awareness, spark meaningful conversations, and give a huge boost to their confidence and well-being. Knowing there are allies around who support their journey is incredibly empowering, so we encourage you to get involved!
Don’t forget to mark Friday 29 August in your calendar! Let’s make this Wear It Purple Day the most colourful and powerful one yet and stand strong with our LGBTQIA+ community.
