Eastern Food Rescue (EFR) aims to divert food waste from landfill and redistribute it to the community, helping not only those in need but anyone who can make use of the rescued food. EFR is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who collect, bag, and distribute food from local supermarkets, bakeries, and cafes.
We also welcome donations from the community, but ask that you limit them to consumable items, rather than goods for the op shop. Please ensure that donations are not open, perished, or well beyond their expiry date.
EFR operates two free food pantries located at 8-12 Simla Street, Mitcham, and 49-53 Wantirna Road, Ringwood. Both are accessible 24/7 and house surplus bread, fruit, and vegetables from our markets.
Donated food from supermarkets is taken to our Eastland market, where it is sorted, organised, and distributed daily by volunteers to members of the community.
