Eastland is proud to support Glen Park Community Centre, helping to create a strong, connected community free from poverty, isolation and injustice.

Glen Park Community Centre is a friendly, supportive and welcoming environment for everyone in the community. Their mission is to create a strong, connected community - free from poverty, isolation and injustice, where every person has access to food, housing, social and economic participation, lifelong learning and support.

They offer a wide range of services to the community with programs offering a free monthly dinner to those who may be experiencing homelessness, social isolation or food insecurity and a weekly Community Pantry, which provides relief to people experiencing extreme hardship, giving the vulnerable community members access to food and material aid when they need it most.

For the last four years Eastland have partnered with Glen Park helping staff, volunteers and their wider community through various program such as;

  • Food donations for their free community pantry
  • food donations for monthly meals night
  • Food order and collect service during COVID19
  • Donations of office furniture and IT equipment
  • Donations of School uniforms and supplies
  • Donations of Christmas food, decorations and packages for unprivileged local families
  • Donations of Easter food and decorations for local families in need
  • Community Partner of Hungry 4 Success – Training
  • Donation of dedicated training space for pre-employment pathways programs
  • Partner of social enterprise café in Eastland, “Hungry 4 Success – Café & Catering”
  • Sponsorship of key holidays events

FREE COMMUNITY PANTRY

The Community Pantry was designed to provide relief to people experiencing extreme hardships such as homelessness and food insecurity, so that vulnerable community members have access to food and material aid when they need it most. Glen Park's Social Enterprise Cafe - Cafe on the Park, works tirelessly to ensure your Community Pantry is stocked full of personal hygiene items, perishable and non-perishable items of food, such as fresh fruit, veggies, bread, meat, eggs and so much more. The Community Pantry will be operating on a fortnightly basis in 2022.

You can help make a difference by donating any of the above items in our donation bins located at the Glen Park pop-up at Eastland, Level 1 near Pacific Smiles.

HUNGRY 4 SUCCESS TRAINING

Glen Park Community Centre have partnered with Glad Group and Eastland since 2021 to deliver Hungry 4 Success® training.

In 2024, Eastland facilitated a collaboration between Glen Park Community Centre and Kmart to expand Hungry 4 Success – Training to include retail as a focused industry of employment, where a Hungry 4 Success – Training Retail program was specifically designed to address specific learning needs and barriers to employment within the retail industry.

Participants will learn essential employability skills and receive on the job experience and training and best of all there may be job opportunities available for successful graduates at the conclusion of the program.

HUNGRY 4 SUCCESS CAFE AND CATERING 

Hungry 4 Success – Café & Catering is a social enterprise of Glen Park Community Centre Inc., in partnership with Eastland. As a social enterprise, Hungry 4 Success – Café & Catering is dedicated to making a difference in the community, through hands-on education and training, social inclusion activities, and pathways to employment opportunities for those facing obstacles.

Every coffee and homemade treat you enjoy supports programs such as food relief, social inclusion and pathways to employment. The team of Hungry 4 Success – Café & Catering includes staff, trainees and volunteers from all walks of life, ensuring a welcoming and diverse workplace.

Social Engagement & Inclusion Groups at Hungry 4 Success – Café & Catering:

  • Pride+ Social Group | Thursday | 10am onwards
    PRIDE+ is a self-facilitated social inclusion group, providing a safe and supportive space for LGBTQIA+ individuals & Allies to connect, share experiences, and build community together.
  • Knit & Knatter | Friday | 11am – 12pm
    Knit & Knatter is a relaxed social group, facilitated by Phyllis Hoffman, where crafters of all skill levels can enjoy great conversation while working on their knitting or crochet projects.
  • Social Cards | Wednesday | 2pm – 3pm
    Join this self-facilitated Social Cards Activity Group for a fun, laid-back way to connect, play, and unwind with friends over classic card games! Some packs of cards will be provided, please feel free to BYO.
  • Quiet Time / Down Time | Wednesday, 10am – 11am | Thursday & Sunday, 2pm – 3pm
    Quiet Time/Downtime sessions offer a peaceful break from the hustle, providing a calm environment to relax, recharge, and enjoy a moment of stillness.
  • Social Seniors | Wednesday | 9am onwards
    Connect with friends, make new connections and experience the joy of community. Enjoy a variety of fun activities like card games, crosswords, Sudoku, board games, and more! Fancy a cuppa and a sweet treat? Present a valid Victorian Seniors Card to enjoy a special 5% discount on your order. 

 

PRIVATE CONSULTATIONS AT EASTLAND

Glen Park now have an additional platform to connect with some of the more vulnerable members in our community, especially those who would find it difficult to get to Glen Park Community Centre.

The space will be used for many things including:

• Connection to support services via  outreach
• Hungry 4 Success program induction and enrolments
• Family connection programs

COMMUNITY EVENT OF THE YEAR

Eastland & Glen Park Community Centre award 2021 winners.

The Maroondah Australia Day Awards recognise the achievements of Australians and the contribution they make to the Maroondah community. Awards are presented in three categories; Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the
Year.

We were very proud and humbled to announce that Eastland’s partnership program with Glen Park Community Centre was the winner of the 2021 Community Event of the Year. This award recognises an event which best reflects the importance of strong community values and ties.

Learn Local Awards

  • Glen Park Community Centre Inc., Eastland Shopping Centre and Glad Group were announced as the Winners of the partnership category for the 2023 Victorian Learn Local Awards for the Hungry 4 Success – Training program. This nomination was centred around Glen Park Community Centre Inc.’s Just in Time Industry Grant, where Glen Park Community Centre designed resources specific to the training program, that could be shared amongst Learn Local providers and adapted to suit their needs. Glen Park Community Centre was acknowledged for the work they do in collaboration and partnership with Eastland and Glad Group in providing training for people living with barriers to employment.
  • Glen Park Community Centre Inc., Eastland Shopping Centre and Glad Group were also recognised as finalists in the partnership category of the 2022 Victorian Learn Local Awards for the Hungry 4 Success – Training program.
